The eighteenth century Italian Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza in Varese, Italy, hosted an exhibition of works by James Turrell and Robert Irwin, titled ‘Aisthesis, At the origins of sensations’. The pair of artists, both pioneers of Environmental Art and leading figures of the Southern California Light and Space movement of the 1960s and ’70s, were commissioned to make site specific interventions into the residence during the 1970s.

Additionally the villa staged two new contemporary conceptual art works, which are more to be felt – sensations through a unique perceptual experience when space and light become confused and borders canceled out. “Sight Unseen” by James Turrell, was one of the most inspiring installations I have seen so far and a truly out-of-body experience.
