CAP KAROSO
Cap Karoso, named after the westerly point of Sumba island, is one of the loveliest beach hotels in Indonesia and among the most ambitious resort projects. With its brutalist concrete shell softened by the jungly gardens and pared-back contemporary interiors, the resort’s sleek design has succeeded in creating spaces that bring together European design sensibility and Indonesian culture. Because of the remoteness of the island in Cap Karoso they filter their own water, generate part of their electricity and hot water from solar panels, source their food from their own organic farm and give 2 per cent of each visitor’s bill to community projects. This pioneering island getaway with meaningful community engagement and sustainability at its heart offers a true immersion into the island’s life and shares a wilder side of Sumba few visitors have seen before.
For this breath-taking hospitality project, first of all, taking care on what carries the unique culture of Sumba means preserving a unique way of life and sharing the luxury of authenticity, wilderness and seclusion.
