Rob Tucker’s landscapes create connections. His still lifes circulate, and his painting is a game of nesting, a call to distance places contrasted with a sense of immediate proximity. Ones we can easily step into and immediately confront us to early works of David Hockney, the Pop artist Tucker has a fascination for.
Tucker emphasizes the brushstroke and the layering process. Each canvas is coated with epoxy resin, which “fossilizes” the painting and adds a glossy sheen over these playful lines and bold strokes creating cargo ships and large houses, the sea and swimming pools. This finish perfects the object, faintly recalling the technique of reverse glass painting. The arrangement of blocks of vivid color that simulate an enticing package or a beautiful facade, reminding us of Morandi’s engravings, stimulate not only a flicker of the eye. Rob Tucker’s landscapes make the heart go BOOM and spawn bright, vivid energy.
